Materials and care

Durable outdoor furniture from Dedon Fiber, teak and aluminum

Dedon builds durable outdoor furniture from a short list of materials: its own Dedon Fiber, aluminum frames, solid teak and outdoor fabrics. This page explains each one and how to care for it, so you know what you buy before you ask for a quote.

The fiber

What Dedon Fiber is

Dedon Fiber is a synthetic fiber that Dedon researches, develops and makes at its own plant in northern Germany. Dedon engineers it to resist chlorine, salt water and sun, which is why you see it on pool decks, on the coast and on yachts.

Specialists at Dedon develop new profiles and textures for each collection with the designers. Mbrace uses a mesh-like triaxial weave in many colors. Other collections use flat or round fibers, woven tight or open.

Weavers at Dedon's plant on Cebu Island in the Philippines work the fiber by hand over each frame. The plant runs zero-waste manufacturing and employs around 260 craftsmen.

Aluminum patio furniture

Aluminum frames and bases

Aluminum patio furniture does not rust, which suits wet and coastal climates. Dedon uses aluminum as the hidden frame under the weave and, in some collections, as the visible base.

Mbrace Alu is the clearest example: the Mbrace chair on a die-cast aluminum base instead of teak legs. Ask us which other collections pair the weave with an aluminum base or table frame.

  • Rust-free, which matters by the ocean and by chlorinated pools
  • Lighter than steel, so chairs move easily on the patio
  • Finish and color depend on the collection, and your quote lists them

Questions

Materials, answered

Is Dedon Fiber the same as wicker?

Dedon Fiber is a synthetic fiber woven by hand the way traditional wicker is. It stays outside, where natural rattan would crack or rot.

How do I clean Dedon outdoor furniture?

Use a soft cloth or brush, warm water and a mild cleanser. Dedon also sells a fiber, teak and upholstery cleaner. Skip alcohol and solvents.

Does Dedon make an outdoor privacy screen?

Not as a separate product in the current catalog. For screening a seating area, clients often use tall planters such as the Babylon planter. Ask us what fits your space.
